This part is still a work in progress but wanted to start listing some of my favorite sites when planning and booking trips:

I've read over and over how great www.kayak.com is but never really cared for it.

Every Sunday, we read the Travel section. We like to learn new tips for traveling and booking trips as well as dream about new destinations. :)

(These above two look good for trying to figure out what Priceline or Hotwires hotels will be based on the vague description you get and not knowing the name of the hotel before you book.)

For vacation rentals (which can save lots of money by cooking most of your own meals...we did this on Maui in 2007 and loved it!):

www.airbnb.com

www.bing.com was also mentioned but not too impressed with their site.
